A 4-year-old boy was killed and his pregnant mother was wounded when bullets flew into their northwest Indiana home from outside as they slept early Monday, authorities say.
The shooting took place at around 1:10 a.m. in the 4300 block of West 23rd Avenue in Gary, Indiana, according to a statement from Gary police.
The article goes on to state the following:
Officers arrived at the scene to find a 4-year-old boy unresponsive with a gunshot wound, and a 27-year-old woman who was shot in the arm and suffered a graze wound to the face, officials said.
Tory’on, who was described as a “very smart little boy who adored his mother and siblings” by his grandmother, lost his father in a recent shooting in Chicago.
According to the report, the woman’s three other children were in the house asleep when multiple shots were fired into the rear portion of their home from outside. No one else was injured and it is not known if the home was specifically targeted. A man who was not the children’s father was in the home the night of the attack.
The Lake County/Gary Metro Homicide Unit is seeking any information.
