TMZ Cites Free Beacon Story On Warren’s Pregnancy Claim

Tabloid giant TMZ cited the Free Beacon’s reporting on evidence contradicting Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s (D., Mass.) claim she was fired from a job at an elementary school in the early 1970s because she was pregnant.

“A publication called the Washington Free Beacon reports—which I’m told is a conservative publication—went to New Jersey and they got the county records. They say the county records show that Elizabeth Warren actually resigned from that teaching job in 1971,” host Charles Latibeaudiere said.

“These county records would seem to dispute Elizabeth Warren’s story,” co-host Mike Babcock added.

The hosts also mentioned a 2007 interview in which Warren suggested she left the position after realizing the graduate courses required for a teaching certificate were not going to work out for her.

Warren, who did not respond to requests for comment, responded to the story on Twitter on Tuesday.

“When I was 22 and finishing my first year of teaching, I had an experience millions of women will recognize. By June I was visibly pregnant—and the principal told me the job I’d already been promised for the next year would go to someone else,” she wrote. “This was 1971, years before Congress outlawed pregnancy discrimination—but we know it still happens in subtle and not-so-subtle ways.”

“I forget what the date is of the next debate, but I imagine this would come up,” Latibeaudiere said.
