U.S. Commends Mexico for Standing Firm amid Caravan Border Rush

Department of Homeland Security Acting Secretary Chad Wolf praised Mexico for its actions to secure the border between that country and Guatemala. His comments come after National Guard troops and immigration officials held off hundreds of Honduran caravan migrants attempting to illegally cross their border.

Officials in Las Cruces, New Mexico, reported on Monday that Border Patrol agents released nearly 1,600 migrants in their community over a 10-day period. The City was forced to spend about $75,000 for humanitarian assistance.

Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents arrested an armed human smuggler with a group of Mexican migrants not far from another group of caravan migrants. It appears the smuggler attempted to use the Central American migrants as a diversion in order to bring across the Mexican nationals.

Texas Police Form Wall of Vehicles to Help Border Patrol Stop Caravan Migrants

Police are lining up their vehicles near Eagle Pass, Texas, to help Border Patrol agents stop the illegal crossing of caravan migrants who arrived in the Mexican border town of Piedras Negras last week. Texas Governor Greg Abbott deployed an additional Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers to the region to assist in securing the border section that has no physical barriers to prevent illegal crossings.
