The city of Modesto, Calif., is currently considering awarding a permit for a “straight pride” parade to take place in a local park after a group submitted an application.
A Modesto city council member told local news outlet CBS 13 that the city is reviewing the application from Don Grundmann, a member of the National Straight Pride Coalition.
The article goes on to state the following:
He told the news outlet the parade is intended to be a cultural celebration in response to “anyone that supports the LGBTQ lifestyle.”
“Essentially it boils down to two religious views of the world,” Grundmann said. “One is Christianity, which is represented by heterosexuality, a culture of life, and its opponent is the LGBT movement, which is represented by an opposing religion and an opposing view of life.”
One city council member, Kristi Ah You, voiced her objection to the request, declaring, “I don’t think we need to give a permit for anything that when you go to the page it talks about whiteness, it talks about western civilization, it talks about being Caucasian. That’s all hate crime stuff to me, that’s not okay.”
#StraightPrideParade Permit Submitted To City Of #Modesto SIMPLE just do what everyone does on #GayPrideParade day, go to the parade and everyone (Straight, LBGTQ) have a good time. What is the big deal? Any excuse to have a Parade is good enough. https://t.co/N1mhJvuqYi
