Modern Family isn’t done yet! ABC announced on Tuesday that the veteran sitcom will return for an 11th, but final season.
Network president Karey Burke shared the news at the 2019 Television Critics Association winter press tour, praising creators Steven Levitan and Christopher Lloyd in a statement:
“So proud to announce that Modern Family is returning for its 11th and final season. Chris and Steve have created one of the most seminal and iconic comedies in television history. In its final season, there will be more milestone events that anyone who has been a fan of the series won’t want to miss.”
While Season 10 looked like it would be the final bow for the Emmy winning show, the writers still apparently have another season’s worth of hijinks in store. Lloyd said in a statement:
“For 10 years, our characters have bravely faced turning points in life and moved through them to great personal enrichment; we have chosen a different path by doing one more season of Modern Family.”
In a separate statement, Levitan joked that the writers just aren’t ready to say goodbye to each other yet:
“Even after 10 years together, we realized there are still some things our writers don’t yet know about each other’s sex lives.”
Hey, whatever keeps the Pritchett-Dunphy-Tucker clan on our screens for another year!
Are YOU excited about this not-so-unexpected renewal?
