BREAKING: Senate votes on Schumer amendment #2

The Senate voted on a motion to table Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer’s amendment to the rules dictating the impeachment proceedings on subpoenaing the State Department. The Senate stuck to party lines Tuesday and voted to table the amendment.

“The second amendment Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer will force a vote on during today’s impeachment trial proceedings will be for the Senate to subpoena certain Department of State documents and records,” his office said.

The Senate already tabled Schumer’s first amendment to the rules, which called for the Senate to subpoena White House documents related to the events. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) responded with a motion to table the proposal.

The motion to table passed 53-47 as Republicans stuck together, including potential swing vote GOP lawmakers like Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine), Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), and Mitt Romney (R-Utah).

The second motion — to table subpoenaing the State Department — also passed 53-47.

A 3rd Schumer amendment, focused on OMB documents, will be debated next.
